At Sourcegraph, I lead product software engineering teams. I’ve spent nearly three decades writing software and working on the systems around it, from networks and servers to APIs and developer tools.
Software, systems,
and teams.
I started as a systems and network administrator: building desktops, managing Windows NT, and working with phone systems and Cisco equipment. Moving from ISDN to a T1 was a big day. Later came Oracle, Unix systems, and containers, though I still claim early credit for chroot and FreeBSD jails.
Much of my software career was in Java. These days I write mostly Go, alongside TypeScript, React, and increasingly SvelteKit. My web work tends toward API and behavior design; shell scripts and Python handle a lot of my automation.
At Sourcegraph, I lead the product software engineering teams. We build tools to help developers work more effectively, myself included.

A web app and Chrome extension for saving, organizing, and summarizing browser tabs and links. Built with SvelteKit and TypeScript.
JavaScriptwp-pdf-archiver
A command-line tool that preserves WordPress posts as PDFs, including images and comment threads. Uses Playwright to load posts and prepare them for print.
JavaScriptnode-proxy-research
Experiments with HTTP proxies in Node.js, including connections over Unix domain sockets. Small examples for investigating how different proxy agents behave.
Older writing
I used to publish technical notes and occasional personal posts here. The archive is still available, including writing about PHP and Windows servers. The dates matter more for some of those posts than others.
Elsewhere
Outside work, I have a big, noisy life: a large family, too many pets, some livestock, and a garden that’s always a bit too ambitious.
